Who we are

The Grand Brief is a free weekly email newsletter for Grand Rapids business owners. It's a newsletter business of TnV Creations, which is the company responsible for it. In this policy, "we," "us" and "our" mean TnV Creations and The Grand Brief.

Questions? Email newsletter@grandbrief.com.

What we collect

  • Your email address. We need it to send you the newsletter.
  • Your name and business name, if you give them to us. For example, on a signup form or in a reply.
  • Email activity. Our email platform records things like whether an email was delivered or opened and which links were clicked. Open tracking isn't always accurate (some email apps open messages automatically).
  • Link clicks. Links in our emails go through a link-tracking service first, so we can count clicks on each link. For personal invitation emails, each invitation link is unique to the recipient, so we can tell whether that person clicked it.
  • Technical info. When you visit grandbrief.com or newsletter.grandbrief.com or click a link, the services involved may log basic technical info such as your IP address, browser type, approximate location and the time of the visit. Our website may also use cookies.
  • Anything you send us. If you reply to an email, we keep your message and the contact details that come with it.

If we invited you

We may send a short personal email inviting you to subscribe. We find business contact details from publicly available sources (such as a business's website or public business listings). An invitation does not subscribe you. You're only added to the newsletter if you sign up yourself. We send at most two short follow-ups to an invitation, then stop. If you ask us not to contact you, we record that and won't email you again.

If you ask about automation

Our Ask about automation form collects your name, email address, business name and a short description of what you'd like to automate. We use it only to reply to your question. Sending it doesn't subscribe you to the newsletter, and we don't sell or share it. To block spam, we briefly keep a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address for up to 24 hours. You can ask us to delete your message at any time by emailing newsletter@grandbrief.com.

How we use your information

  • To send you the newsletter and related emails you signed up for (such as a welcome email).
  • To understand what readers find useful (which topics and links get clicks) so we can make the newsletter better.
  • To reply to you when you write to us. If you ask about help for your business, we'll talk with you about it, but only because you asked.
  • To keep track of who has asked not to be contacted.
  • To keep our emails working and secure, and to meet legal obligations.

We don't use your information for anything unrelated to the newsletter without telling you first.

Who handles your information for us

  • Email platform: we use CopyQuill (copyquill.app) to host this website, manage our subscriber list and send the newsletter. CopyQuill stores and processes subscriber information on our behalf.
  • Link tracking: a link-tracking service counts clicks on links in our emails.
  • Email and hosting providers that we use to send personal emails and run grandbrief.com and newsletter.grandbrief.com.

These providers process information to deliver their services to us. We don't allow them to sell your information.

We don't sell your data

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We don't share your email address with advertisers.

If the newsletter ever includes a sponsor, the sponsor won't receive your personal information.

Unsubscribing

Every newsletter email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Click it and you'll stop getting the newsletter. You can also just reply "unsubscribe" or email newsletter@grandbrief.com.

Your choices and requests

You can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal information we have about you,
  • correct it,
  • delete it, or
  • stop contacting you.

Email newsletter@grandbrief.com with your request. We may need to confirm the request came from you. We'll respond within a reasonable time. We may keep a minimal record (such as your email address on a do-not-contact list) so we can honor your request not to be contacted.

How long we keep it

We keep subscriber information for as long as you're subscribed, and for a reasonable period afterward for records and to honor unsubscribe and do-not-contact requests. You can ask us to delete it sooner, as described above.

Security

We use reputable service providers and take reasonable steps to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

Children

The Grand Brief is for business owners and professionals. It isn't directed to children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13 (or under 16 where local law sets a higher age). If you think a child has signed up, email newsletter@grandbrief.com and we'll remove them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll change the effective date at the top, and if a change is significant, we'll mention it in the newsletter before or when it takes effect.
